Terms of service

Plain English terms for ordering 3D printed parts from LayerPost. Last updated 25 October 2026.

1. Who we are and what we do

LayerPost (“we”, “us”) is a UK sole trader business that 3D prints parts from digital models you supply, sells ready-made printed models in its shop, and posts them to you. Contact us at [email protected]. These terms apply to every quote and order. If you are buying for a business, section 11 also applies.

2. Quotes

Send us your file and we will reply with a quote within 24 hours on working days, or tell you if the file needs changes before it will print well. A quote is free, is not an order, and is valid for 14 days. The quoted price is the total you pay for the work described in it, including postage, which we charge at cost and show as a separate line. We are not VAT registered, so no VAT is added.

3. Orders and payment

Shop orders for ready-made models are placed when you pay at checkout, and we email you a confirmation. A custom print order is placed when you accept a quote in writing (email is fine) and we confirm it. Orders under £50 are paid in full before printing. Larger orders are a 50% deposit before printing and the balance before dispatch. Quoted lead times start when payment or the deposit clears. We will email you a confirmation of what was ordered, the price, the expected dispatch date, and these terms.

4. Changing your mind and cancelling

Ready-made models bought from our shop are different from custom prints: you can cancel them for any reason within 14 days of delivery and send them back, as our refunds and returns page explains. For custom prints, you can cancel any time before we start printing and we will refund everything you have paid, including any deposit. Once printing has started we cannot accept a cancellation, because the part is being made to your order and has no other use. This is the “goods made to your specification” exception in the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Your rights if something is wrong with the part (section 7) are separate and are not affected by this.

5. Your files

You keep all rights to your designs. By ordering, you confirm that you own the design or that the licence it came with allows it to be printed for you by a third party. If you are not sure, ask us before ordering. We may decline any file we believe would infringe someone else’s rights. If a third party makes a claim about a design you sent us, that is a matter between you and them; we will tell you about it and cooperate, but we will not take on responsibility for a design that was yours to check.

We treat your files as confidential. They are never shown to other customers, reused, sold or printed for anyone else, and we delete them on request. Our privacy notice explains how long we keep files and where they are stored. We are happy to sign an NDA for commercial work.

6. What we will not print

We refuse, without exception: working firearm components and other functional weapon parts; safety critical parts, meaning anything whose failure could injure someone, such as climbing equipment, helmet mounts, load bearing supports for people and vehicle safety components; medical devices or implants; and designs that infringe someone else’s rights, including counterfeit branded goods.

Cosplay props, replica and costume pieces are welcome. For anything that looks like a weapon we may ask what it is for and how it will be used, and we will only print it where UK law allows. If we decline a file after you have ordered, we refund you in full.

7. If something is wrong with your part

Every order is inspected before dispatch, and functional parts are measured. If a part is faulty, damaged, or not what was agreed in the quote, tell us and we will put it right. Within 30 days of delivery you can choose a full refund or a free reprint. After that we will reprint first, and refund you if the reprint does not fix it. We cover return postage where a return is needed. The same applies to ready-made models from our shop, with a replacement in place of a reprint; see our refunds and returns page. These are your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and nothing in these terms reduces them.

If you tell us what a part is for, we will print it to be suitable for that purpose as far as the design and the material agreed in the quote allow, and we will tell you before printing if we think it will not be. A part printed exactly to a design you supplied is not faulty because the design itself does not perform as you hoped; tell us about the job and we will advise.

8. What 3D printed parts are like

3D printed parts are weaker between printed layers than along them, and visible layer lines are part of the process. Colours can vary slightly between filament batches. Parts are made for prototyping, decorative and general hobby use unless you have told us what the part is for (see section 7) or a specification is agreed in the quote. We do not supply certified tolerances or load ratings.

9. Delivery

Parts are posted by a tracked service, Royal Mail Tracked 48 as standard, and you will get the tracking number. The part is your responsibility once it has been delivered to you. If it arrives damaged, tell us as soon as you can, ideally within 7 days, with a photo, and we will replace or refund it and deal with the courier ourselves.

10. Our responsibility to you

If we fail to do what these terms say, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our failure or our lack of reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for loss caused by using a part for something other than what was agreed, or by a problem in a design you supplied. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

11. Business customers

If you are buying for a business, the consumer rights in sections 4 and 7 do not apply. Instead we will reprint, replace or refund an item that does not match the agreed quote or the shop listing, our total responsibility for an order is limited to the price paid for it, and we are not responsible for loss of profit or other indirect loss. The last sentence of section 10 still applies.

12. Complaints and the law

If something has gone wrong, email [email protected] and we will reply within two working days. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, although as a consumer you may also use the courts where you live in the UK.
