Privacy notice
What we collect when you ask for a quote or order from LayerPost, why, where it is kept and for how long. Last updated 25 October 2026.
Who is responsible for your data
LayerPost, a UK sole trader business, is the data controller for the information described here. Contact us about anything in this notice at [email protected].
What we collect
When you use the quote form or email us, we collect what you give us: your name, email address, the 3D file or a link to it, your choices of material, colour, quantity and deadline, and anything you write in the notes. The form software also records the internet address (IP address) the request came from, which we use only to stop abuse of the form. Our web server also logs the IP address of every visit, for security, and deletes these logs after 14 days. If you order, we keep the quote, our emails with you, the invoice, the payment record and the postal address the part is sent to.
We do not use analytics, advertising trackers or marketing cookies. The shop sets the cookies needed for your basket and checkout, our card processor sets cookies to prevent fraud, and the site sets a login cookie for us. Nothing else.
Why we use it, and the legal basis
We use your details to check your file, send you a quote, print and post your order and reply to your messages. The legal basis is that this is necessary to take the steps you asked for before a contract and then to perform the contract. We keep invoices and payment records because tax law requires it (legal obligation). We record the IP address on form submissions to protect the service from abuse (legitimate interests). We do not send marketing and we do not add you to any list.
Your files
Your 3D files are treated as confidential. They are used only to quote and print your order. They are never shared with other customers, published, sold or used as examples, and we delete them on request. We are happy to sign an NDA for commercial work.
Where it is stored and who else sees it
Quote requests and files sent through the form are stored on our own server, hosted by OVH in the United Kingdom. Email sent to [email protected], including attachments, is delivered by Cloudflare to our Gmail account, so it is also held by Google. Cloudflare routes the website’s traffic. Copies of our server, including quote requests and files, are backed up to Google Drive, where Google’s servers may be outside the UK. Royal Mail receives your name and postal address to deliver your parts. Payments are handled by WooPayments (cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay; run by Automattic with Stripe underneath) and PayPal, which receive your name, email address and payment details; we never see your full card number. We share nothing else with anyone unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Quote requests and the files sent with them are deleted automatically 12 months after you sent them, or sooner if you ask. We clear our emails with you on the same timescale. Invoices and payment records are kept for 6 years after the tax year they relate to, the usual period for tax records, without the files. Backup copies are replaced on a rolling basis and are gone within about a month of the original being deleted.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict or stop using it, or ask for it in a portable format. Email [email protected] and we will reply within a month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Our service is for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to place the order for you.
